Victim Compensation

In order to help ease the burden of costs that may be incurred by victims and their loved ones due to the result of a crime, Crime Victims Council offers assistance in filing for victims’ compensation through the Pennsylvania Victims Compensation Assistance Program.

You may be eligible if

  • the crime occurred in Pennsylvania.
  • the crime was reported to law enforcement OR a Protection From Abuse order (PFA) was filed, within 72 hours of the crime.

Other eligibility requirements apply.

Types of expenses that may be considered:

  • Out of pocket medical expenses
  • Loss of earnings
  • Counseling expenses
  • Funeral expenses
  • Relocation expenses
  • Loss of support
  • Crime-scene cleanup
  • Money stolen or defrauded from individuals on a fixed income, such as social security or pension

The Victims’ Compensation Program does not pay for pain and suffering or stolen/damaged property (unless needed for basic bodily functions, i.e: eye glasses, cane, wheelchair, prescription medication etc.).
